Wellmark 80/35 Play In

Straight from Iowa Public Radio’s Studio One in Cedar Falls, IA is Love Songs For Lonely Monsters:

Lest we fail to mention it again, we are lucky enough to be a part of this year’s 80/35 play-in contest with seven other excellent Iowa bands. Last night we took the trip to the studio for a raucous live performance that was broadcast state-wide on the many IPR affiliate stations. Along with the video of Bedlam above, you can listen to the entire performance including Ganglion Sister, Reputation, Lightning Bug and Inherent Trait at the IPR website.

Now, until May 31, you will have a chance to rate the various live performances that have been recorded over the last two weeks. More than just a popularity contest, the vote takes into account each ballot caster’s feelings on the band’s songwriting, musicianship and overall performance. The top thee will make it into 80/35, and play a showcase at the Gas Lamp in Des Moines on June 21.

Special thanks goes out to Kevin Neal who more-than-aptly filled in for Chris, who is still recovering from his broken hand. Hopefully he’ll be back in tow when we (fingers crossed) move in to the next round. VOTE!!

Out From Under the Bed…A Three Day Journey to Cedar Falls, Omaha, and Back to Des Moines

The group is excited to make their first three day back to back (to back) venture, which ends in a blowout show at the Vaudeville Mews back in Des Moines.  Joining the band that night (May 12th) will be friends Everyday/Everynight from Omaha.  The groups met last August at the same venue and have wanted to play a show together again since.

Also performing that night will be Lesbian Poetry (Des Moines super group consisting of Nate Logsdon, Chris Ford, and the Rabalais Brothers) and Dear Rabbit.  Listen to them here and here, respectively.  We’re so excited to have these three bands joining us!  Here’s the kicker, the Friday night before (May 11th) ls4lm will be joining E/E at O’Leavers in Omaha!  The band is really looking forward to playing in a new town.

Even more so because the night before Omaha, they’ll be making a trip to the other side of the state for Welmark’s 80-35 Play In.  On Thursday (May 10th) the band will be performing 5 songs on Iowa Public Radio broadcast live from Studio One (stream it LIVE NOW) on the UNI Campus in Cedar Falls.  Anyone can come!  The (Facebook) event is free and open to the public!

Hopefully, if you’re in the mood for some love songs, you can make it to one of these live shows.

Love Songs For Lonely Monsters in May: New Fans, Broken Hands and Contests, Man!

What a month April was for the band! Let’s recap as we look forward to a monster May:

Gross Domestic Product

We were honored to be included on the bill of this year’s Gross Domestic Product. The yearly event is sponsored by The Des Moines Music Coalition and features the best the state of Iowa has to offer. This gave us an opportunity to not only catch some of our favoite friends, but also check out some acts we had only heard about. But before the show, which was on April 14th, we were treated to a treatful treat in the form of the show at Vaudeville Mews the night before.

Also, we felt a little hindered by the old theme’s constraints, and hope this blog-friendly format will encourage us to post more content. We have updates on recordings, shows, and band members coming, so we hope you stay tuned!
